The Colombaio is to be found near Vivo d’Orcia.

The town is historically tied to the Ermicciolo springs where a group of monks settled in the Middle Ages to celebrate contemplative life in the woods, the monks later moved downhill, to what became the Vivo Hermitage.

The summit of Monte Amiata can be easily seen from the house. 

We are immersed in woods of chestnut and oak where the altitude prohibits beech trees to grow. The beech groves are like temples of white columns, in autumn turning to shades of orange yellow, bright red.

Going towards the valley, after Castiglione, flows the Orcia River. The Orcia Valley expands into the stretch of the via Cassia towards Siena and is a hilly countryside cultivated with wheat, vineyards, olive orchards, and the solitary cypress trees that are so famous worldwide..

In the surroundings there are many good restaurants: I lecci, La tana nel castagno, the Taverna Pian delle Mura and Ristorante Anna.
